Europe!

Guess who's home from a week in London and Paris?

MEEEEEEEEEEE.

This experience is probably the best one of my life so far. Seriously. I had so much fun, met so many cool people (including Michael Aranda of youtube, which was a total shock) and saw a bunch of interesting old things. Considering the fact I'm double majoring in history and anthropology in the fall, this trip was a dream come true. I took so many pictures which are currently taking a long time to upload on Facebook, and I surprisingly didn't spend as much money as I thought I would. Good thing too since senior prom is three weeks away!

I really want to go back again and experience it without a massive tour group. At least now I know where I want to spend time and where I want to visit that I didn't get the chance to while there. I'm still tired from the flight, even though I got in last night and slept until noon. .

Cheers, unknown readers!

Rebecca Black

Usually I try not to add fuel to someone's reputation if they don't deserve it. But I make an exception for this. A while back, my best friend mentioned some girl named Rebecca Black who was being compared to Justin Bieber.. in a very negative way. At the time I was all like, whatever don't care, so I didn't bother to find out more. That is, until this showed up on my newsfeed today:

Sorry if that made your ears bleed. Mine feel like they've just been violently raped. I have a few issues with this song and video, and not just with this girl's voice.

First of all, her "friends" look like they're barely old enough to be allowed out of the house alone, never mind being able to drive! Please, those kids are so not 16. They're 13. Why are they singing about partying? They should be at their local mall, not a house party.

Secondly, the lyrics to this song are unoriginal. She's singing about waking up (Ke$ha shoutout?), then going to the bus stop. Seriously? The torture continues when her "friends" arrive and offer her a ride, and she then debates where she should sit. Who cares?! I don't! Music can be about anything, true, but this is arguably NOT music. It's autotuned crap.

Yes, some things can be autotuned and sound, if not at least good, hilarious (shout out to the guys and gals responsible for the "Bed Intruder Song"). This isn't one of those things.

I read an online article about this song shortly after I listened, and it mentioned a company that this girl went to that produced this monster. Turns out there's several others out there just like Rebecca Black who think they have what it takes to be the next Ke$ha or Lady Gaga. Um, sweetie, sorry to break it to you, but I wouldn't recommend dropping out of school to become a singer.

However! This is in fact America, and so if this girl wants to be a singer, then by all means it's her right to become one. She doesn't have to be a great singer.. but she can in fact be one. If her parents want to spend money on her "career" and there's producers out there who want to make her songs, then whatever. Have fun.

Props to her for going after her dream. It does take guts to know that people hate your song and are making fun of you (there's no way she can't be aware of the all the bad press). I hear she's going on a mall tour too. And you know what? I hope everything works out for her. I would never wish bad stuff to happen to someone ~ that's just bad karma. So sing your heart out, Rebecca Black. Keep making songs. Just know I won't be adding them to my iTunes playlist.

Newsfeed Stuff

I saw this on my newsfeed, and was like, "OMFG!" .. I like it a lot, because it's so true (and frustrating!)

"Why do You ignore the girl who is in Love with you, the one girl who know's you've done wrong plenty of times and still want's to be with you , the one girl who doesn't care what others say about you, the one girl who know's your completely wrong for her but still want's YOU, and only YOU, why do you ignore the girl who could really make you happy, the one that maybe deep down you know you truly love her too, Why won't you accept her. ~Scares the Hell outta you doesn't it?"

Vacation

February vacation, ohh hey. I may be on break, but this week is going to be so busy. I have scholarships applications to get done, places to go and people to hang out with. Also, I'm highly aware that this is probably my last February vacation ever. Most of the people I know in college have Monday off, but then they go right back to classes the next day. So..

Might as well make this the best last February vacation, ever.

I last blogged like 2, maybe 3, weeks ago. I blame school. I'll probably end up posting a ton of posts for the next few days and then stop again for a few weeks. But at least I haven't stopped blogging all together! ... Right?

Parents and Songs About...

There is always a moment in son or daughter's life where an awkward situation with their parents arise. This could range from watching a movie where a sex scene occurs or maybe overhearing something that would rather be avoided.

In my case, music was the reason for the awkwardness.. with sex involved. Everyone has probably heard the song "I Just Had Sex" by The Lonely Island. I love this song because it's just so freaking catchy and hilarious. Because I like it, it's on my ipod. Now, my dad's car has a tape thingy where you put a tape in and then plug in the other end to the ipod to play songs through the car speakers. I pressed shuffle and.... yeah. That song came on. Uuhmm...............

My brother was all like, "Not this songg....!!!" I quickly changed it. I'm hoping my dad didn't even notice the lyrics. I so do not need to explain why I have a song about having sex on my ipod. I mean, a lot of songs are about sex. But this one in particular is proudly talking about it. Not something I want to listen to with my dad, of all people...

I have the song "Like A Boss" stuck in my head. It was just playing when my mom walked into my room to quickly check her Facebook messages, and as I was singing along to it, she started laughing and I was like, "Mom, do you actually like this song?!" ... Turns out, yes, she does. I love when this happens. . .
